George Wine Company

George Wine Company is a unique venture where the entire winemaking process is masterfully orchestrated by its sole employee, George Levkoff. George's path to winemaking was a circuitous one, beginning with his upbringing in New York City and culminating in a career as a bond trader in Los Angeles. A pivotal moment occurred about a decade into his financial career when a friend shared a 1991 and 1992 Williams Selyem Rochioli Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley over dinner, sparking George's wine epiphany and setting him on a new course.

George vowed to one day move to Sonoma and craft his own Pinot Noir. Four years later George fulfilled his promise to himself. Seeking hands-on experience, he went to the source of his epiphany and joined Williams Selyem, earning the distinction of being the oldest intern at the renowned winery. Under the mentorship of Burt Williams and Ed Seylem, he immersed himself in the winemaking process. Additional experience was gained at Brogan Cellars, run by Burt Williams' daughter, Margi Wierenga.

In 2003, George was ready to launch his own winemaking journey. Acquiring fruit from Hirsch Vineyard, where he had forged connections during his intern years, he crafted his inaugural release—two Pinot Noirs totaling 150 cases. Despite the modest production, George's wines quickly garnered acclaim from top sommeliers in Las Vegas and New York, establishing his Pinot Noir as a cult favorite.

As a one-man show, George meticulously oversees every aspect of winemaking, from sorting to bottling, marketing, and delivery. Emphasizing a gentle approach, he ensures that his grapes are picked at night and promptly delivered to the winery in the early morning when temperatures are cooler. Eschewing pumps, George relies only on gravity for his winemaking process. His commitment to minimal intervention is reflected in bottling only unfined and unfiltered wines, resulting in exquisite expressions of Pinot Noir.

George's dedication to craftsmanship has not gone unnoticed, with over a dozen Master Sommeliers choosing to serve his Pinot Noir in some of the finest restaurants across America. George Wine Company stands as a testament to one man's passion and skill, creating wines that captivate the palates of connoisseurs and continue to make waves in the world of fine dining.
