The Fableist Zinfandel 2021

Viticulture

The 2021 Fableist Zinfandel grapes are from the Old Potrero Vineyard in Arroyo Grande. The grapes are farmed organically. Arroyo Grande AVA is part of the San Luis Obispo Coast AVA, notable for its cool coastal climate.

This old vine Zinfandel vineyard is located only 8 miles from the ocean, so the wine retains incredible acidity, even at riper levels. The block is entirely dry farmed in what is essentially beach sand with 10-by-10 spacing, evocative of Spain. This produces incredibly small yields.

Vinification

The grapes were hand-picked and 100% destemmed. Fermentation was three weeks, then the wine was pressed off to barrel. American oak barrels were used to counterbalance the brightness of the fruit.

Tasting notes

Cozy as a Christmas fire, cranberry and rhubarb dance on the palate as you’re filled with the warmth of pie spice, followed by a silky finish. You can practically hear the crackling flames.
