Enjoy a glorious panorama nighttime view of Tokyo while experiencing Chad Melville's finest Santa Rita Hills wines paired with a Washoku menu at Shunju in Tameikesanno. Chad Melville and the chef of Shunju will showcase a beautiful pairing menu displaying the elegant balance that can be achieved with his awarding winning Santa Rita Hills wines and nuanced Japanese Washoku dishes.

Head winegrower, Chad Melville, now heads up all viticulture and winemaking operations at Melville Winery, one of the leading wineries of the Santa Rita Hills. Founded over 20 years ago by Chad's father Ron, the 120-acre estate focuses on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Vineyard management is key element of the Melville philosophy of "wine growing" rather than "wine making."  According to Chad, who has managed the vineyards since the first planting, concentrating efforts out in the vineyard, prior to harvest, means less work is need in the winery, and thus the true nature of the grape shines through in the final wine. All blocks are hand harvested and fermented in small lots completely isolated through the entire period of elevage, which gives Melville's team with an ongoing exhibition of how they can fine tune vineyard practices to achieve the most unmanipulated and site-specific wines possible.

For this evening Chad will show a selection of both Melville and Samsara wines. Samsara is his private, off-site project where he produces super tiny lot wines virtually by himself. The selection will include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah all from the Santa Rita Hills AVA. The Melville Estate Syrah 2014, which was rated at 95 points by Robert Parker, will be one wine you do not want to miss.
